Why did my transaction change from income to expense when I changed the category?

Categories in Origin belong to one of three transaction types:

• Income
• Expense
• Transfer

If you move a transaction to a category with a different transaction type, Origin asks whether you also want to change the transaction type.

You'll see two options:

• Change category only keeps the transaction amount the same and only updates the category.
• Change to income or Change to expense updates both the category and the transaction type.

For example, if you change an expense to the Reimbursement category, Origin can also change the transaction from an expense to income so it displays as a positive amount.

If you only want to recategorize the transaction without changing whether it's income or an expense, choose Change category only.
