By default, car payments are not automatically tracked as expenses in Origin. That’s because they’re usually categorized as Transfers — money moving between your checking account and a loan or liability account.
Want Car Payments to Count as Expenses?
If you’d prefer your car payments to show up in your budget and spending reports, you can easily recategorize them.
Here’s how:
-
Go to the Transactions tab.
-
Find your car payment transaction.
-
Click the category dropdown next to the transaction.
-
Change the category from Transfer to something more relevant, such as:
-
Transportation
-
Car Loan
-
Car Savings (if you’re pre-paying or saving up)
-
-
Click Apply to save the change.
Doing this ensures that your car payments are included in your expense tracking, so you can get a more accurate view of your monthly spending.
