You can now mark eligible connected accounts as closed while preserving your historical financial data in Origin.
This helps you maintain accurate transaction history, spending insights, and net worth trends even after an account is no longer active.
What happens when I mark an account as closed?
When you mark an account as closed, Origin will:
- Preserve your transaction history
- Preserve historical net worth balances
- Stop syncing new activity after the closed date
- Keep the account visible as a closed account in Origin
This is useful for accounts like:
- Credit cards you’ve replaced or paid off
- Old checking or savings accounts
- Closed loans
- Brokerage or investment accounts you no longer use
How to mark an account as closed
- Go to your Linked Accounts page
- Select the account you want to close
- Click the ⋯ menu
- Select Mark as closed and save history
- Review and confirm:
- Closed date
- Final balance
- Save your changes
Once confirmed, the account will appear as closed throughout Origin while preserving your historical data tied to it.
FAQs
Q: Can I edit the closed date or final balance?
A: Yes. You can:
- Edit the closed date (up to the current date)
- Edit the final balance at any time
This helps ensure your historical net worth and account balances remain accurate.
Q: What happens to transactions tied to that account?
A: Transactions tied to the account will remain available up to the account’s closed date.
You can still:
- Search transactions
- Filter by the closed account
- Use historical spending reports and trends
Q: Can I still delete the account entirely?
A: Yes. If you prefer, you can still fully disconnect/delete the account instead of preserving history. Please note that deleting the account removes associated transaction and net worth history from Origin.
Q: Can I reopen a closed account?
A: Not at this time.
Once an account is marked as closed, it cannot currently be reopened manually.
Q: Does this work for reconnecting accounts or switching providers?
A: Not yet. This release is specifically for accounts that are actually closed. Support for preserving history while reconnecting an active account or switching data providers may be added in a future update
