What is a fractional share and fractional investing?

Fractional share investing allows investors to purchase a portion of a stock rather than being required to buy whole shares. For example, you could invest just $50 in a $200 per share stock by purchasing 0.25 shares.

Origin Invest enables fractional share investing so customers can build diversified portfolios without high per-share stock prices being a barrier. We split eligible securities into fractional pieces as small as 0.00000001 of a share.

This makes investing more accessible, allowing you to invest small dollar amounts across more stocks and funds. We do not charge extra fees for fractional shares.

One important note - if you transfer your Origin Invest account, fractional shares cannot be moved. Any partial shares would need to be liquidated to cash before the transfer.
