Origin’s budgeting tools are designed to help you plan ahead, stay intentional with spending, and build toward your long-term financial goals.
Here’s how to create your personalized budget:
- Go to the the Spending tab and click into Budget
- Choose to use our AI Budget Builder or create it manually
- Follow the prompts to create your personalized budget
As you build your budget, Origin will surface historical spending averages to help you create realistic category targets.
You’ll also see your remaining available budget update in real time so you can balance spending, savings, and investments more intentionally.
Customize your budget categories
You can personalize your budget by:
- Adding or removing categories
- Adjusting target amounts anytime
- Enabling rollover for eligible categories
- Updating transaction categories directly from your budget
You can also classify categories as:
- Fixed — recurring essentials like rent or insurance
- Flexible — variable essentials like groceries or utilities
- Discretionary — optional spending like dining out or entertainment
These classifications can help you better understand where you have flexibility in your spending.
If transactions are incorrectly categorized, you can recategorize them and create rules so future transactions are categorized automatically.
Plan beyond the month with rollover budgeting
Origin supports rollover budgeting for eligible categories, allowing unused funds to carry forward into future months.
This makes it easier to save gradually for irregular or larger expenses like:
- Travel
- Annual insurance payments
- Holidays and gifts
- Taxes
- Home projects
For example, if you budget $100/month for travel but only spend $40, the remaining balance can continue accumulating for future trips.
Track savings as part of your budget
Savings and investments are built directly into the budgeting experience, helping you plan proactively instead of treating savings as “whatever is left over” at the end of the month.
